Surrogate 101: Who Can Be a Surrogate?
The Basic Requirements
To ensure the safety and health of everyone involved—you, the intended parents, and the baby—certain prerequisites must be met. While every situation is unique, generally, you should be:
A Parent: You must have already carried and delivered at least one healthy pregnancy to full term.
Age: Typically, applicants need to be between the ages of 21 and 40-45.
Health: You must be in excellent overall physical and mental health, free from certain chronic conditions, and generally maintain a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI).
Lifestyle: You must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident residing in a state where surrogacy is legally recognized.
