Donation Cycle

Details Explained:

  • Complete the initial contact form, our case manager will reach out or visit our egg donor application page.

  • This involves testing for ovarian function, blood type, infectious diseases, drug use, and general health. Family history will be evaluated to raise awareness of possible hereditary diseases or genetic disorders. Testing consists of blood tests for genetic diseases, such as cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs disease, sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, and more. You will be asked to speak with a psychologist to make sure you are at fully understanding of the benefits and risks of egg donation and has proper motivations for becoming a donor.

  • Once an egg donor completes the health screenings, she typically waits for a match with intended parents. During this period, our team ensures all her test results (genetic, hormonal, and psychological evaluations) are reviewed and approved by fertility specialists. Once matched, the donor undergoes medical clearance screening at the clinic to rule out any infectious disease, we keep our donors informed every step of the way, providing guidance and support to ensure a smooth and positive experience.

  • Once an egg donor at Gifted Conceptions completes her legal contract—finalizing compensation, rights, and medical consent—she begins the donation cycle under close medical supervision. The process starts with hormonal injections to stimulate egg production, followed by regular monitoring through ultrasounds and bloodwork to track follicle growth. After about 10–14 days, once the eggs are mature, she undergoes a brief outpatient retrieval procedure under light sedation. The entire cycle, from starting medications to recovery, typically takes 2 weeks, with our team ensuring her comfort and safety at every step. Post-retrieval, the donor receives follow-up care, and compensation.

No. Information that is disclosed to recipients is limited to your medical history, educational background, and your physical characteristics.

What if I am on birth control?

It is fine to be using birth control pills or other forms of contraceptives such as an IUD or Nuvo Ring. However, we cannot accept egg donors using Depo-Provera injections.

Is the Egg Donation process and procedure painful?

Generally, the egg donation process is not painful, but as with any medical procedure, there is the chance for side effects.

Some women may experience mild side effects from the injection that is used to stimulate the ovaries. These can include bruising at the injection site, mood swings, or tender breasts. While it’s normal to have a phobia of needles, the needle used to administer this medication is very thin and shouldn’t cause pain. Your fertility care provider can also help you learn how to administer the injection at home to make it as comfortable as possible.

Are there any restrictions undergoing the process?

Yes, there are some restrictions to be aware of while undergoing the egg donation process and retrieval procedure. Because it’s possible to become pregnant, we recommend you either abstain from having sex or ensure you use an effective barrier protection method (such as condoms). It is also recommended that egg donors (or patients undergoing IVF alike) reduce alcohol use and limit high-impact exercise while on ovarian stimulation medications and after the egg retrieval. Drug use is also prohibited for egg donors.

Why us?

Gifted Conceptions offers fast matching and generous compensation to our egg donors. Our staff are experienced with interpreting medication protocols, we'll always advocate for you to ensure a safe, risk-free donation cycle.

What are the risk?

In rare cases, you can develop a condition known as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) that can include cramping, bloating, nausea, and diarrhea. These symptoms usually go away within a week. However, if you do experience these symptoms, it’s important to report them to your doctor to avoid any further complications.

During the egg retrieval process itself, a technique called transvaginal oocyte retrieval is performed. The doctor will use an ultrasound probe, inserted into the vagina to guide a needle into the ovarian follicle. This then uses a suction device to retrieve the eggs. Fortunately, you’ll be given a sedative before the procedure, so you won’t experience pain or discomfort.

Will donating my eggs deplete my egg reserve?

No, no need to worry! Fertility treatment medications involved in the IVF process work by rescuing eggs that would otherwise naturally die off in any given cycle. Therefore, the process of egg donation does not affect your future fertility in any way.
