Tenacious Journey to Parenthood: Rita's IVF Experience
Rita and her husband had been living together since 2015 with regular sexual activity and no contraception, yet they had been unable to conceive. In 2023, they officially married, and their desire for a child grew even stronger. However, recalling her past experiences, Rita had suffered a biochemical pregnancy with her ex-boyfriend in 2012, and in 2014, she underwent laparoscopic salpingectomy (removal of the affected fallopian tube) due to an ectopic pregnancy. These past traumas filled her heart with unease and anxiety. After years of waiting, they finally decided to seek professional medical help.
At the hospital, Rita and her husband underwent thorough medical examinations.
Given Rita’s age and ovarian reserve, the RE we recommended to Rita, designed a long-protocol ovulation induction plan during the follicular phase for her. The treatment began with antagonist regulation to prepare for subsequent ovarian stimulation.
Followed by administered ovulation-stimulating medications to promote follicular growth, adjusting dosages in real-time based on follicular development and hormonal level fluctuations.
In the end, she successfully retrieved 9 eggs, of which 7 were mature oocytes (MII eggs), and 7 achieved successful fertilization (2PN). Following egg retrieval, the laboratory team meticulously cultured and screened the fertilized embryos. After several days of observation, they successfully developed multiple high-quality embryos. Upon her doctor's recommendation, Rita opted to transfer one blastocyst and cryopreserve the remaining three for future use.
On the 12th day after the embryo transfer, Rita underwent her first β-HCG test. However, the results did not conclusively indicate pregnancy. While this outcome left her somewhat disheartened, she refused to give up hope.
However, she was fully aware that the road to a successful pregnancy remained long and arduous.
Finally, at the 2nd embryo transfer cycle, she underwent another β-HCG test. This time, the results showed a positive β-HCG levels, confirming successful embryo implantation and normal development in the uterus. Meanwhile, her progesterone (P) levels also demonstrated an upward trend, further validating the progression of a healthy pregnancy.
